Beginners

We are passionate about bringing new people into the sport of archery, and run beginners courses all year round. It’s a great way of trying out the sport and getting to know the club.

To book a place on a beginners’ course please contact our coaching team at: newcenturycourses@gmail.com

• Our courses are run on Monday evenings and take place over a six (6) week period.

• Each lesson is 2 hours long , starting at 7 pm and finishing at 9pm.

• The cost of a course is £80.00 per person.

• All equipment is provided and all courses take place indoors.

• The venue is New Century Bowmen’s ground, Holehouse Lane, Whiteley Green, nr Macclesfield SK10 5SJ.

New Century Bowmen is affiliated to Archery Gb which is the National Governing Body for archery in the UK and our courses comply with their requirements. Tutors on the course will be qualified Archery GB coaches assisted by experienced Club members.

The course will cover:

•  Basic safety rules and archery etiquette.

•  How to use a bow in a safe manner.

•  How to shoot with and without a sight.

•  Equipment and its use.

•  The different bowstyles – although recurve bows will be the ones used on the course.

•  Information about the various forms of archery available i.e. Target – indoor and outdoor, Field, Clout, Flight etc.

•  An overview of how archery ‘works’ in the UK i.e. the various levels – club, county, region, national; competition and the various rounds and distances shot; scoring systems etc.

•  Warm up and cool down exercises.

•  What to do if you want to continue with the sport when the course has finished. Details about buying equipment and Club membership are discussed towards the end of the course.

Please be aware that archery training may require some limited, appropriate, physical contact eg. to guide the position of arms and fingers, or to adjust posture. Your coach will explain the need for such contact.

Juniors

Juniors (under 18) are welcome to attend a Beginner’s Course on the following conditions:

•  If juniors are under 12 years of age their parent/guardian must also enrol on the course. The course may not be suitable for very young children due to the stamina and attention required for a 2 hour lesson and to the late evening timing of the sessions. Distances shot, even indoors, may also be difficult to achieve by very young children. (Please also note: Following a beginners’ course, juniors under 12 years of age will only be accepted for Club membership if their parent/guardian is also joining as a shooting member.

•  Juniors age 12 to 17 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times whilst attending at the course.

Booking a Place on a Course.

To ensure beginners receive individual attention, the number of places available on each course is limited so they do need to be booked in advance.
